ABDELMAGEED is Emeritus Professor of environmental science and aquatic biology, the former president of the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries, editor-in-chief of the Journal of Oceanography and Fisheries, and director of the institute's publishing house. He possesses over 35 years of advanced research experience in aquatic ecosystem assessment, environmental monitoring, and biodiversity evaluation. He has experience leading multidisciplinary research teams, conducting impactful fieldwork, and preparing technical reports that contribute to the formulation of sustainable development policies.

He is also involved in the establishment and management of biobanks to conserve the genetic resources of economically important fish species and protect them from the effects of climate change and human activity. Furthermore, he is working on developing new climate-resilient fish strains through gene transfer from organisms resistant to environmental stress.
